Valentin Haussmann

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Valentin Haussmann , also Haußmann or Hausmann (* around 1560 in Gerbstedt ; † around 1614 there) was a German composer.

He was the son of the musician Valentin Haussmann (* 1484 in Nuremberg , † around 1560 in Gerbstedt), a friend of Martin Luther and Johann Walter . There is no information about his early years of life or his musical training. Until 1609, Haussmann was organist and councilor in Gerbstedt.

With editions of Italian song compositions in German and with his own “sociable” compositions, he made a decisive contribution to the spread of Italian music in Germany and made an early contribution to instrumental music ( Neue Intrade , 1604). He also created some works of sacred music.

With his orchestral dance movements printed in 1598, he was the first actual instrumental composer in Germany. At first he did not have a permanent job, but traveled around the country as a freelance "musician". Not until 1590 did he get a job as an organist in his hometown, where he was also a councilor during this time.

His exact date of death is unclear to this day, but it must have been 1614 or shortly before. This results from the fact that the second publication by Johann Jeeps Studentengärtlein, which appeared this year, contains a composition on his death.
