Valentin Xristov

Valentin Christow Snechew (born March 30, 1994 in Shumen / Bulgaria) is a Bulgarian or Azerbaijani weightlifter . He won at the 2012 Olympic Games , a London bronze medal in the bantamweight to him because of doping was revoked.

Career

Valentin Christow started lifting weights as a teenager in Bulgaria. He developed very quickly because of his talent and took part in an international championship in Chiangmai for the first time in May 2009, the Junior World Championship (U17) in the weight class up to 50 kg body weight. He achieved it in a duel 193 kg (90-103) and came in 5th place. In September 2009 he started at the European Junior Championship (U17) in Eilat / Israel. In the weight class up to 50 kg he came back to a duel performance of 193 kg (90-103), with the second place behind his compatriot Stefan Wasilew Mazarow, who came to 201 kg (91-110).

After the Bulgarian Weightlifting Association's public funding was canceled in 2010 due to constant violation of the doping ban, Bulgarian weightlifting was practically on the brink of end. For this reason, a number of Bulgarian weightlifters and trainers moved to Azerbaijan, where they received better financial resources than in Bulgaria. The Azerbaijani Weightlifting Association is said to have paid the equivalent of 450,000 euros for the release of Valentin Christow Snechew. Since January 1, 2011, Valentin Christow has started for Azerbaijan. There the former Bulgarian world champion Slatan Wanew , also a multiple doping offender, became his trainer.

At the 2011 World Cup in Paris, he started for Azerbaijan for the first time. In the bantamweight he reached 276 kg (122-154) in a duel and thus won the bronze medal in a duel and the bronze medal with his performance of 154 kg in jerking.

In 2012, Valentin Christow was European bantamweight champion in Antalya with a duel of 280 kg (125-155). In addition, he won an EM gold medal with his individual performances in snatching and pushing. The later evaluation of the doping sample taken at the European Championships in Tirana showed that Xristov was doped with dehydrochloromethyl testosterone. He was then withdrawn from the international weightlifting federation IWF because of doping all titles and medals won at the 2013 European Championship and the 2013 Junior World Championship. He was also banned from all competitions from April 9, 2013 to April 9, 2015. Based on the test results of doping samples taken at the 2012 Olympic Games in London, Xristov, like four other weightlifters, was suspended by the world association IMF on December 23, 2018 . The International Olympic Committee announced the final withdrawal of the medal on March 29, 2019 .
