Topics & technology

Valentina Murabito creates in her pictures "intermediate beings" that do not fit into any specific category, hybrids of man and woman, man and animal. She plays with gender roles and questions the concept of identity . (ARTE TV report, January 19, 2017).

She experiments with analog photography, for example by dissolving the photographic surface in order to shape it like a skin or to break it like dry earth. The artist develops her photographic works by hand on baryta paper , watercolor paper , wood, steel, concrete and wall surfaces. Her works open a dialogue with painting and sculpture and are unique.

Valentina Murabito's aesthetics refer to research by photography pioneers such as Eadward Muybridge . Her works try to cross the boundaries of photography by questioning its relationship to the real. As R. Hanselle wrote in fotoMagazin, they are “enchantment and transcendence”.
