Valeriano Gomez

Valeriano Gómez (born December 15, 1957 in Arroyo del Ojanco , Jaén ) is a Spanish politician of the PSOE .

Life

Gómez studied economics at the Complutense University of Madrid . Between 1984 and 1986 he was economic advisor to the Executive Committee of the Unión General de Trabajadores . From 1988 to 1994 he was an advisor to several ministers for labor and social affairs, including Manuel Chaves and José Antonio Griñán .

In April 2004 he was appointed Secretary General for Employment Policy on the recommendation of the then Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Jesús Caldera , and held this post until November 2006. In December 2006 he became a board member and chairman of the finance committee of the Fundación José Ortega y Gasset . In 2008 he worked as a technical coordinator on the drafting of the PSOE's election manifesto for the parliamentary elections.

From October 21, 2010 to December 2011, he was Minister for Labor and Immigration in the Zapatero II cabinet, succeeding Celestino Corbacho .
