Valerio Varesi (born August 8, 1959 in Turin ) is an Italian journalist and crime writer.

Life

Varesi was born in Turin in northern Italy in 1959. He completed his studies with a doctorate on Kierkegaard . Professionally employed as an editor at La Repubblica , he published his first novel in 1998, which was followed in rapid succession by other crime novels about Inspector Soneri . Il fiume delle nebbie (2003; Ger. 2005 as The Fog River ) was particularly successful in Italy and nominated for the Premio Strega . His work appears in German in a translation by Karin Rother at Rowohlt in Reinbek . Varesi lives in Parma (as of mid-2009).
