Valery V. Fokin

Valery V. Fokin (* 1971 in Gorki ) is a Russian-born American chemist ( organic chemistry , catalysis ) at the Scripps Research Institute .

After graduating from the University of Nizhny Novgorod in 1993, Fokin obtained his bachelor's degree from Calvin College in the same year, and in 1998 he studied at the University of Southern California under Nicos A. Petasis with the thesis Synthetic and computational studies of biostable lipoxin analogs, N carboxyalkyl peptides, and cyclic ketal of pentonolactones doctorate . From 1999 he was at the Scripps Research Institute. There he is Associate Professor (2013).

Together with Barry Sharpless and MG Finn, he is considered one of the pioneers of click chemistry .

In 2013 he was one of the Thomson Reuters Citation Laureates .
