The Valle de los Ingenios ( German  Valley of the Sugar Mills ) extends east of the Cuban city of Trinidad . 1988 was the World Heritage Committee of UNESCO in the list of World Heritage Sites added. A total of 75 individual historical sites such as sugar mills, colonial houses and slave shelters were taken into account.

A major attraction is the Torre de Iznaga in the center of the valley, also known as the slave tower. It served to supervise the slaves in the sugar cane fields. The seven-story, 50-meter-high bell tower was built by the Iznaga planter family in 1816. The slaves were called to work by the tower bell and they were also monitored from here. Unrest and gatherings of slaves, which could lead to revolts, should be noticed early by the overseers. Today the tower is a memorial. You can climb the tower and enjoy a wide view over the valley "Valle de los Ingenios". You can also visit the former home of the Iznaga family. The Mirador de la Loma five kilometers northeast of Trinidad also offers a view of the entire valley.

In the north the Valle de los Ingenios is enclosed by the Sierra del Escambray , in the south low foothills separate it from the Caribbean Sea .
