Detailed data

Valsayn is a small town in Trinidad and Tobago .

location

Valsayn is located in the north of the island of Trinidad , in the middle of the East-West Corridor , the metropolitan region of the state capital Port of Spain south of the Northern Range from west to east . Since Port of Spain is bounded in the north by the Northern Range and in the south by the Caroni Swamp , the city expanded to the east over time. The resulting east-west corridor is so densely populated that in the past independent cities merge into one another and now have the character of districts of the capital agglomeration. However, they are still formally independent. Valsayn lies on the border between the regions of San Juan-Laventille and Tunapuna-Piarco . The Uriah Butler Highway runs west of the city , and the Churchill Roosevelt Highway , which runs west to east , divides Valsayn into a northern (Valsayn North) and a southern (Valsayn South) part. Valsayn is bordered to the north and east by Curepe , to the northwest by Champs Fleurs , to the west by San Juan and to the south by Bamboo Village.

history

The city is named after a plantation ( Valsayn estate ) that used to be in today's urban area , which belonged to the judiciary ( teniente de justicia mayor ) Jose Mayan at the end of the 18th century and to which José María Chacón , the last Spanish governor of Trinidad, in 1797 Signed the deed of surrender, establishing British rule over Trinidad. In the first half of the 19th century, the mansion was the residence of the Mayor of St. Joseph , Paul Giuseppi.

Economy and Transport

Valsayn is a residential area and has no significant industry with the exception of Nestlé's Trinidadian subsidiary, which was built in 1962 in the west of the city . The Valpark Shopping Plaza is the oldest shopping center in Trinidad in Valsayn South, and another shopping center, the Grand Bazaar, is in the west of the city. The television station IBN and the national radio stations Central Radio FM90 and United Cinemas Limited have their offices in Valsayn.

Facilities

A campus of the University of Trinidad and Tobago, the Cipriani College of Labor and Co-Operative Studies, founded in 1966, is located in Valsayn. In the north-west of the city there is the Jamboree Park, a public green area that is used for carnival and other events. In the south-east of the city, there is the Spring Village Recreation Ground, a small multi-purpose sports facility where the Spring Village Insiders cricket team plays its home games.
