The Van der Veen Ice Stream (formerly Ice Stream B1 ) is a large ice stream in Marie Byrd Land in western Antarctica . It is a southeast tributary of the Whillans Ice Current .
The Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names named him in 2003 after Cornelis J. "Kees" Van der Veen (* 1956) from Ohio State University , who together with the Canadian geologist Ian Morley Whillans (1944-2001) carried out extensive studies from 1986 to 2001 West Antarctic Ice Sheet.
