The Vanden Plas Princess 4 Liter Sedan is a four-door Pullman limousine from the British Motor Corporation (BMC), which it launched in 1960 as the successor to the Austin Princess IV model. The car was mainly used in the rental car business and was often used as a transport vehicle for family celebrations such as weddings and funerals.

Model description

From the previous model, the car also took over the body without significant stylistic changes. However, the wheelbase and vehicle length have been significantly increased. The six-cylinder in-line engine with 3993 cm³ displacement also came from the predecessor, but its output was significantly lower at just 120 bhp (88 kW). Accordingly, the performance with a top speed of 139 km / h was also more modest. The fuel consumption was 22.7 l / 100 km. In 1962 a standard body Vanden Plas sedan was £ 3,473.

classification

In Great Britain there were in the 1960s in addition to the Vanden Plas Princess 4 liter sedan with the Rolls-Royce Phantom V and the Daimler DR450 , which came from the Jaguar Group, which was still independent at the time, as well as two other series-produced long sedans. The Vanden Plas sedan served the same market as the younger and more powerful Daimler DR450; both cars sold for roughly the same price (£ 3,500 for the Daimler). For several years, Vanden Plas and Daimler competed with each other. The coexistence of the two models only ended when Daimler's parent company Jaguar lost its independence. After Jaguar and Daimler had been integrated into the BMC Group at the beginning of 1967, BMC had two completely different sedans in its range that were positioned in the same market segment. In the summer of 1968, BMC ended production of both the Daimler DR450 and the Vanden Plas sedan. BMC replaced both with the newly developed Daimler DS420 , which, regardless of its brand name, was based entirely on (older) Jaguar technology.
