The Rolls-Royce Phantom V is a luxury-class passenger car built by Rolls-Royce in the 1960s .

The engine was a V8 with a 90 ° cylinder angle, a displacement of 6230 cm³ and two SU carburettors, to which a four-speed automatic transmission was flanged. The car had drum brakes all around and a wheelbase of 3683 mm. 516 copies of the Phantom V were produced from 1959 to 1968 and were based on the Silver Cloud II , from which it also took over the engine and the automatic transmission, a Hydramatic from General Motors . From 1963 the 7% more powerful machine of the Silver Cloud III was installed and the later models also received new front fenders with recessed double headlights. The cars reached a top speed of 163 km / h.

John Lennon's Phantom V was delivered from the factory in a white exterior color, but he had it given a special psychedelic paintwork by an artist . This car is one of the most valuable memorabilia in pop music.

Other famous owners of the vehicle were or are Queen Elizabeth II , of whom one of her copies can be viewed in a special garage on board the Britannia in Leith (Scotland) , and her mother, Queen Mum . Elizabeth II's carriages were the official state coaches of the United Kingdom and were fitted with a standard and an illuminated coat of arms above the windshield.

King Olav V of Norway also owned a Phantom V from 1962.

The governor of Hong Kong used a Phantom V for ceremonies. The British Royal Navy returned the car to England on July 1, 1997 after Hong Kong was handed over to China .

Numerous Phantom V chassis were provided with special bodies from independent body construction companies. A number of very different constructions came from James Young .
