The Rolls-Royce 25/30 hp is a passenger car that was built by Rolls-Royce from 1936 to 1938 as the successor to the 20/25 hp . It had a larger engine with a higher output because customers kept complaining about the predecessor because of insufficient output when they had heavy superstructures fitted.
construction
The overhead six - cylinder in - line engine was similar to that of its predecessor 20/25 hp, but had a larger displacement of 4257 cm³, which was created by boring from 82.55 mm to 88.9 mm with the same stroke of 114.3 mm. The compression was 6.0: 1. A single Stromberg carburetor replaced the Rolls-Royce carburetor and magneto ignition was no longer available. Instead, an additional ignition coil was installed as a replacement. The four-speed gearbox was interlocked with the engine, the gear lever was traditionally on the driver's right side. Third and fourth gears were synchronized.
The chassis with a separate frame had rigid axles at the front and rear, each suspended from semi-elliptical longitudinal leaf springs with hydraulic shock absorbers. All four wheels were fitted with drum brakes, which were operated by a mechanical brake booster - under license from Hispano-Suiza . The handbrake worked on separate drums on the rear axle. The well-known Rolls-Royce radiator with a triangular attachment had vertical fins that were adjusted by a thermostat to control the engine cooling.
In three years, 1201 pieces were made. In 1939 the Wraith replaced the 25/30 hp. The engine of the 25/30 hp was used in a modified form for the 4 ¼ liter .
body
Only the chassis and mechanics were made by Rolls-Royce. The bodies were built and put on by wheelwright at the buyer's choice. Some of the most famous coachbuilders for Rolls-Royce chassis were Park Ward , Thrupp & Maberly , Mulliner and Hooper .
In film and television
