The Rolls-Royce 100 EX is a concept vehicle that Rolls-Royce built in 2004. EX stands for EXperimental Model. The car possessed:
- a V16 engine with a displacement of 9.0 l
- a six-speed automatic transmission
- Dimensions: length: 5669 mm, width: 1990 mm, height 1561 mm
The car was built to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the meeting between businessman Charles Rolls and engineer Henry Royce . The details of the car speak for themselves, but the fact that the Solid Silver Spirit of Ecstasy is mounted 2.1 m from the driver can give an impression of the actual dimensions of this car. The manufacturer did not comment on the engine power, but the trade press estimated it at around 700 bhp (515 kW) and the torque at 950 Nm. Rolls-Royce announced that this concept vehicle would never go into series production, but the manufacturer obviously changed its mind when the similar-looking Phantom Drophead Coupe appeared in January 2007 .
Rolls-Royce 101 EX
In 2006, the Rolls-Royce 101 EX , a GT coupé prototype based on the 100 EX, was shown at the Geneva Motor Show . The 101 EX had the same aluminum " spaceframe " as the Rolls-Royce Phantom VII , but in a shortened version. The car was 241 mm shorter than the Phantom sedan and had a lower roofline. He also owned the Phantom's engine, a 6.75 liter V12. The production version of this concept vehicle, the Phantom Coupé, made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show in 2008.
The 101 EX appeared in an episode of the British TV car magazine Top Gear , where Jeremy Clarkson referred to it as "Rolls-Royce Vulgarsonic" because of its illuminated headliner.
