The Vanden Plas Princess 4 Liter R was a four-door sedan from the British Motor Corporation (BMC), which it brought out in May 1964 as the successor to the Princess 3 Liter .

The Pininfarina body was essentially taken over from its predecessor. There were new, horizontal taillights and the tail fins were omitted. The 6-cylinder in-line engine with aluminum block and 3909 cm³ displacement that Rolls-Royce had originally developed for the Rolls-Royce Rangoon project was completely new . At 129 kW (175 PS), its output was considerably higher than that of the 3 liter (88 kW / 120 PS), which was not only reflected in improved performance, but also in the significantly higher fuel consumption of 19 liters per 100 km.

In 1968 the production was stopped without a successor model. After a large part of the British auto industry had merged in the British Leyland Motor Corporation , it was decided that the luxury class of automobiles would in future only be operated by Jaguar . The new Jaguar XJ 6 had just been introduced there, next to which there was no longer any space for the Vanden Plas models.
