Vardingholt is predominantly a scattered agricultural settlement. The development of the Rheder core city has spilled over to parts of Vardingholt. The district includes the northern part of the area of ​​the city of Rhede. In the far north, Vardingholt shares the Burlo-Vardingholter Venn nature reserve with Borken - Burlo . history

Vardingholt was originally a Westphalian peasantry that stretched north of the church village Rhede. The first documentary mention comes from the year 1209. Since the 19th century Vardingholt formed a rural community in the office of Rhede of the district of Borken. On August 1, 1968, Vardingholt was merged with the other municipalities of the Rhede Office to form a new municipality of Rhede, which received city ​​rights in 1975 .
