Vasgen Badal

Vahagen Badal , born Vahagn Vardanian Badal (born December 11, 1891 in Tehran , † probably in Berlin at the end of 1959 ) was an Iranian film producer for German film.

Live and act

Badal is now considered one of the long-forgotten filmmakers in German cinema history. Nothing is known about his career and his entry into the film business; the marriage certificate from 1915 stated the profession of dentist.

With the establishment of the 'Dr. V. Badal-Filmproduktion ', later called' Badal-Filmproduktion 'for short, he began working as a film producer in 1932. The independence of Badal-Film only lasted four years, then its owner had to dissolve the company. During this time he produced a number of romances and comedies in which popular screen stars such as Jenny Jugo , Magda Schneider , Louis Graveure , Camilla Horn and Heinz Rühmann took part. After a short break, Badal resumed film production at the beginning of 1936 and in the same year produced two adventure materials with an old Russian background, Stjenka Razin and Moscow - Shanghai .

Badal's activities in the following years up to 1945 are largely in the dark. All that is known is that he made the 17-minute Nazi propaganda film Roter Nebel in the winter of 1940/41 , which was only released in cinemas in 1942, i.e. after the German attack on the USSR in June 1941. With this staging, the Propaganda Ministry tried to create a mood against Soviet rule in the Baltic States .

In the second half of 1950 Badal resumed its production activities with the newly founded 'Badal-Filmproduktion GmbH, Munich'. Yet the output remained extremely meager.

At the time of his death, Badal was almost forgotten. Not even the trade magazine "Filmecho" brought an obituary.
