action

The girl from Montparnasse is called Nicolette and is a cheerful Parisian. She is poor but charming and has captured the heart of the rich son of the count, André Labourdèle, by storm. Together the two move into a modest attic apartment in the French capital. This doesn’t fit the old Count, Andrés father, at all, as he has long since picked out a “more befitting” match for his Filius, the daughter of his business partner Ravin. However, since the son firmly refuses to turn away from Nicolette and turn to the still very young Georgette, Count Labourdèle André unceremoniously cuts off any financial support. Nevertheless, Nicolette and André cannot be separated and limit themselves in everything as best they can. André earns some money performing as a chansonnier in a tiny cabaret, with Nicolette as accompaniment on the piano. But there is not enough money back and forth, and one day the bailiff even seizes André's pocket. André sees only one way out: he has to marry the unloved Georgette. He has a very idiosyncratic plan.

The girl from Montparnasse is horrified, but is calmed down a little when André assures her that he wants to divorce her again as soon as he gets married to the rich young lady. When Nicolette learns that André will not easily get out of a closed marriage, she is devastated. In the hope of being able to turn things around for the better, Nicolette now wants to turn to wealthy men himself. In this way she gets to know Count Labourdèle without knowing that this is her lover's stubborn father. Before it comes to extremes, she confesses to the old man, which is why she throws herself at gentlemen like him. Now the count recognizes his wrong behavior and gives her some money to say goodbye. André returns to the attic from his engagement party with Georgette. Since he doesn't find Nicolette here, he suspects that she may be hanging around with other men. His concerns vanish into thin air when she returns a little later, accompanied by his father. He now has no concerns about his son getting married to the lovely girl from Montparnasse.
