Life and work

Erika Glässner was born in 1890 as the daughter of the painter Gottfried Glässner . Her brother was the opera singer Kurt Glässner. In her youth, Glässner received ballet lessons. She made her debut in 1910 as a dancer at the Stadttheater in Erfurt. In the following years she received engagements as a dancer and actress in Olbernhau , Halberstadt and Frankfurt am Main. In 1914 she was on stage for the first time in Berlin at the Lustspielhaus .

From 1915 Glässner took on leading roles as a silent film actress. The most common type of character portrayed by her was that of the perky seductress, as in the film Tragedy of Love with Emil Jannings . In 1926 she married the politician Arnold Kalle .

Although her roles became smaller over the years, Erika Glässner remained a busy film actress for a long time, who also continued to act in the theater. As she got older, she embodied mostly strict aunts and mothers-in-law.

After the Second World War, she received her last film duties in two DEFA productions as an elegant elderly lady. After the death of her husband in 1952, Erika Glässner settled in Gießen in March 1956, where she committed suicide three years later.
