Vasilis Doropoulos (also: Vassilis Doropoulos, Greek Βασίλης Δωρόπουλος , born August 13, 1942 in Mesopotamia near Kastoria ) is a Greek sculptor and medalist .

life and work

Doropoulos moved to Paris with his mother in 1965 , he studied at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts , first painting (1965–1967) and then sculpture (1967–1972). His works were shown in the Grand Palais as early as 1969 . During this time he created numerous medals for the Paris mint, the Hôtel de la Monnaie .

In 1989 he was commissioned by the Greek state to design a reconciliation monument to commemorate the end of the Greek civil war . For this he created the 8 meter high bronze sculpture “Symfiliosi”.

Most of Doropoulos' works are of a political nature and dedicated to the commemoration of events. In different degrees of abstraction they create a human reference, but can never be assigned to a specific person.
