Vassal Gadoengin

Vassal Gadoengin (* 1943 in Denigomodu ; † December 15, 2004 in Yaren ) was a Nauruan politician and speaker of the Nauruan parliament from 2002 to 2003 and from the last elections in October 2004 . He was also a member of the Nauru Olympic Committee .

Before going into politics, he worked as a teacher. Gadoengin was first elected to parliament in 1997 and confirmed in office in 2000. He was Minister of Justice during Bernard Dowiyogo's tenure . He already served as speaker in 2002 and 2003; when he resigned as such at the end of January 2003, Gadoengin was consequently voted out by the Nauruan electorate, but in the last elections in 2004 he made it back into parliament and was re-elected as parliamentary speaker.

He died in December 2004 of a heart attack as a result of his diabetes . The next day President Ludwig Scotty praised him in front of parliament for his state services as parliamentarian and minister. On December 20, he was paid his last respects at a state funeral.
