The Vatersay Causeway is a road embankment that connects the Hebridean Islands of Barra in the north and Vatersay . It crosses the Vatersay Sound with a length of about 250 m and is the only road connection between the two islands.

The construction of the dam, which began in 1989, required the use of 220,000  t of rock material. It was completed in mid-1991, but never officially opened. The total construction costs amounted to 3.7 million  £ . The road leading to the dam mostly follows the coastline and branches off the A888 west of Castlebay . It is a single lane across the dam and has no escape points. In the time before the construction of the dam, a ferry from Castlebay handled the traffic to Vatersay. Boats had to be rented to transport bulky goods.
