Vatroslav Lisinski
Vatroslav Lisinski (baptized July 8, 1819 in Zagreb ; † May 31, 1854 there ) was a Croatian composer and as such founded the national Croatian musical style.
Lisinski is considered to be the co-founder of the Illyrian Movement , the return to Croatian cultural heritage. It was created in response to repression from Hungary . Lisinski composed the first Croatian opera “Ljubav i zloba” (Love and Malice) in 1846 . Probably the most famous opera by Lisinski is “ Porin ” from 1851. He also composed numerous other works for orchestra, choir and soloists.
After his death he was buried in the Mirogoj cemetery in Zagreb .
