Vaughan Charles Richard Dewing (born May 5, 1933 in Queenstown ) is a former South African journalist and ambassador .

Life

Vaughan Charles Richard Dewing is the son of Charles Robert Dewing. He married Carol Ann Jerome in 1969; they have two daughters. Vaughan Charles Richard Dewing attended Queens College in Queenstown.

From 1951 to 1955 he was a journalist for the daily newspaper The Star . From 1955 to 1956 he was employed by JWT in Johannesburg . From 1956 to 1957 he attended the Vox Language Institute in Madrid . In 1957 he attended the American School of Languages in Istanbul . From 1958 to 1960 he studied nuclear engineering in London, from 1960 to 1965 he was press attaché at the embassy in London. In 1966 he was employed by the South African mission at the UN headquarters . From 1966 to 1968 he headed the Information Service of SA in New York City .

In 1969 he was employed in Buenos Aires. In 1972 he headed the SA Embassy Information Centers in La Paz , Santiago de Chile , Asunción and Montevideo . In 1973 he was employed in Johannesburg. In 1976 he was Counselor for Information in Ottawa and in the Information Department in Pretoria . In 1981 he was deputy head of department. In 1984 he was Counselor for Information in Madrid. From 1986 to 1989 he was Consul General in Hong Kong . From 1989 to 1992 he was in charge of public relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 1993 to 1994 he was ambassador to Montevideo and was accredited to the governments of La Paz, Santiago de Chile , Asunción and Buenos Aires .
