Vaughan Island is a small, conical and tussock- covered island in the group of Willis Islands off the western end of South Georgia . It is located immediately east of Main Island .
Scientists from the British Discovery Investigations did a rough mapping between 1926 and 1930. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 1964 after Lieutenant Commander Hugh Lawrence Folliott Vaughan (* 1926) of the Royal Navy , who was involved in the surveys of this area on board the HMS Owen .
