Veľké Hincovo pleso (German Great Hinzensee ) is a mountain lake (more precisely a Karsee ) on the Slovak side of the High Tatras and at the same time the largest and deepest mountain lake in Slovakia.
It is located in the small valley of Hincova kotlina , the upper end of the Mengusovská dolina and its height is 1946 m nm. Its area is 20.1 ha, it measures about 740 × 340 m, has an oval shape, is 53 m deep and the volume averages 1.8 million m³. It has no above-ground inflow; at the southern end, the water of the Hincov potok , which flows over several steps into the Poprad , takes in its water . This makes the lake the highest source of this river. On average, the surface of the lake is frozen over 270 days a year.
West of the lake, the wall of the rising Kôprovský stit ( 2363 m nm ) in the north of Čubrina , the stit Prostredný Mengusovský and Veľký Mengusovský stit and east of the stit Východný Mengusovský , Hincová veža and Mengusovský Volovec . Only to the south does the view of the Mengusovská dolina open up. The lake can be reached from Popradské pleso in 1½ hours via a blue marked path. Alternatively, the lake can be reached via the Vyšné Kôprovské sedlo from the Hlinská dolina and Kôprovská dolina valleys . The mountain hikes to the lake can only be carried out from June 16 to October 31, as the rest of the year is closed.
