Vejlerne is a large wetland between Lønnerup Fjord in the west, Lund Fjord in the north, Bygholm Vejle in the east and the Limfjord in the south, on the North Jutian island of Vendsyssel-Thy in Denmark .

history

After the loss of high-yield agricultural land in southern Jutland after the war with Prussia , the Danish state tried to promote the reclamation of previously unused land.

Vejlerne

In this context, an attempt was made to drain a branch of the Limfjord that was below sea level . This plan was only abandoned in 1916, after which the area was left to natural development again. In 1960 a 6,000 hectare area was finally placed under nature protection.
