Frederikshavn fI

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Frederikshavn forenede Idrætsklubber is a sports club from Frederikshavn in the Danish region of Nordjylland . Both the footballers and the handball players belonged to the highest divisions in the country for several years.

Handball

The handball players rose in 1996 to the then first-class 1st division and finished the opening season in fifth place. Under coach Olaf Schimpf , the FfI achieved the best position in the club's history in the following season with the runner-up (both in the main round and in the subsequent championship round). In 1999/2000 the team started in the EHF Cup, where they lost to the eventual finalist Tertnes IL in the round of 16.

In 2001 the club entered into a syndicate with LSU Sæby and from then on ran under the name Frederikshavn FOX Team Nord . The new syndicate reached fourth place again in 2001/02, but otherwise could no longer build on the successful period of the late 1990s. After a first relegation in 2004, they were promoted twice, most recently they belonged to Damehåndboldligaen in 2007/08. In 2010 the FOX Team Nord had to file for bankruptcy and the FfI was downgraded to the 3rd division. Under the new name Vendsyssel Håndbold , however, they returned to the second class in 2012.

The men's team belonged to the 1st division in 2006/07, 2010/11 and from 2016/17 , which is the second highest division in Danish men's handball.

Soccer

From 1960 to 1962 and from 1977 to 1978 the footballers of the FfI played in the 1st division , the then highest Danish league. The club's most famous player was Harald Nielsen .
