Olaf Schimpf (born August 19, 1968 ) is a German handball trainer who coached the Dutch national women's handball team from 2003 to 2004 and currently works for VfL Bad Schwartau and SC Alstertal-Langenhorn .

career

The former handball player became German champions in 1996 with the female youth A of TV Lützellinden and coached the women's teams of the Norwegian first division club Stabæk IF and the Danish first division club Frederikshavn fI in the late 1990s . With the Danes he was runner-up in the Damehåndboldligaen in 1999/2000 and also took part in the round of 16 of the EHF Cup, where they lost to the eventual finalist Tertnes IL .

In the 2000/2001 season he took over the regional league team HSC Bad Neustadt and immediately reached 2nd place in what was then the regional league middle with a newly formed team. In the following season he rose with the HSC on the last match day as first place in the Regionalliga Mitte in the 2nd Bundesliga. In the first second division season of HSC Bad Neustadt he was dismissed in February 2003 after a home defeat against TSG Friesenheim. In March 2003, Schimpf was loaned to HC Empor Rostock (2nd Bundesliga North) as a coach until the end of the season.

At the end of 2003 he took over the Dutch women's national team, while at the same time being the team coordinator of the HSC Bad Neustadt. With nine wins, one draw and eight defeats, he achieved a positive record overall, but could not prevail in the qualifying games for the European Championship 2004 against Romania. In November 2004, he resigned because he could no longer reconcile the position with his simultaneous activity as managing director of TSG Oßweil .

In 2006 Schimpf became the coach of the women's team for the second division club Frisch Auf Göppingen . After his team finished the season in third place in the 2nd Bundesliga South, they were able to prevail in the promotion round against TV Beyeröhde and TuS Weibern and qualified for the Bundesliga. After a 26:27 defeat against Bayer Leverkusen, however, he was released in the first half of the first Bundesliga season.

After a break of several years, he has been working in the female youth division at VfL Bad Schwartau since 2010. Since the introduction of the A-Juniors Handball Bundesliga in 2013 , he has played with the A-Youth without interruption in the highest German junior division. In 2015/16, the qualified coach also took over the third division women's team of VfL cooperation partner TSV Travemünde for one season. Since the 2018/19 season he has also coached the third division club SC Alstertal-Langenhorn .
