history

The company was founded in 2001 in Paris by CEO Jacques-Antoine Granjon and seven partners. All founders were already active in the warehouse sale business from the early 1980s .

After graduating from the European Business School in Paris in 1985, Jacques-Antoine Granjon founded his first company. At the end of 2000 Jacques-Antoine Granjon and his partners invented a new concept that allows overproduction and remaining stock from well-known brands to be sold in so-called online flash sales for temporary sales. The principle: The branded manufacturer's stock items are quickly dismantled without damaging the manufacturer's image or cannibalizing the traditional sales channel . The vente-privee.com website went online in 2001 in France. The first three years were characterized by investments and further development of the processes. The breakthrough came in 2004 with the sale of a well-known lingerie brand. At the end of 2006, the German and Spanish markets were opened up with local websites. In July 2007, vente-privee.com sold 20 percent of its shares to the US private equity firm Summit Partners . The US investor supports vente-privee.com in its international development efforts. In 2008 Italy and Great Britain were added as sales markets. Dutch customers have been able to shop at vente-privee.com since 2011. In the same year the US market was opened up through a joint venture with American Express . In autumn 2014, after disappointing sales figures and strategic inconsistencies between the partners, the decision was made to withdraw completely from the USA and the joint venture was ended at the end of 2014. Today Vente Privée is active across Europe in France, Germany, Spain, Italy, Great Britain, Austria (since 2010), Belgium (since 2010) and the Netherlands. 80% of sales are generated on the French home market.

In October 2013, the French Vente-Privée platform started selling regional gourmet foods in the 'Gastronomy' area under the name Miam Miam . At the end of 2013 it became known that Qatar Holding, part of the Qatar Investment Authority, had become a minority shareholder in Vente-Privée as an investor. At the same time, company founder Granjon increased his stake from 20 to 25%.

vente-privee.com has free applications for iPhone, iPad, WindowsPhone and Android as well as a web application.
