The Association of Alpine Clubs in Austria (VAVÖ) is the umbrella organization for all important Alpine clubs in Austria . According to its own account, the association is non-party . It was founded in 1949 and is based in Vienna . The VAVÖ has been a UIAA member since 1951 .

Franz Hiess has been an honorary member of the UIAA since 1983 .

Members

In 2020 the VAVÖ had a total of 12 member associations with more than 750,000 members in around 671 sections or local groups, and operated a total of 446 shelters .

Another member is the Austrian Tourist Association . In fact, he is only a member of the Austrian Mountaineering Association and therefore only indirectly a member of the VAVÖ.

tasks

The association coordinates the interests of the alpine associations and trains alpine instructors and hiking guides. In addition, he cooperates with authorities, offices and the general public and ensures the acquisition of funding.
