The Verband Verkehrswirtschaft und Logistik Nordrhein-Westfalen eV (VVWL) is an association of entrepreneurs and employers for transport, logistics, forwarding, furniture forwarding and waste disposal in North Rhine-Westphalia . It represents around 2,200 member companies.

Association purpose

The main task of the VVWL as a trade representation is to help shape practice-oriented legislation through lobbying and to influence the transport policy framework in the interests of the transport industry. The association represents the concerns of its members in North Rhine-Westphalia in relation to politics, the ministries, the district governments as well as authorities, industry and trade. As employers' association of VVWL negotiated with its social partners United Services Union at the country level, the wages, salaries and collective bargaining agreements as a regional collective agreement for NRW. In addition, it represents its members before labor and social courts.

Structure and membership

The association is divided into three professional associations: Regional Association for Transport, Logistics and Disposal, Regional Association for Spedition + Logistics and the Regional Association for Furniture Forwarding and Logistics, to which the entrepreneurs assign themselves according to their areas of responsibility. The members elect regional delegates from among their ranks, who in turn determine the board from among themselves. In addition, every member bound by collective bargaining agreements has the right to vote and vote in the employers' association for transport and logistics.

Membership is open to any profit-making company that is active in the transport industry, logistics and waste disposal and has its headquarters or branch in North Rhine-Westphalia.

Examples of political work

At the state level, for example, the association played a key role in the transport working group on the NRW climate protection plan of the state environment ministry, helped shape the clean air plans of the district governments for the Ruhr area and Cologne and, in order to significantly accelerate the new construction, successfully demanded that the Leverkusen bridge be included in the appendix to the federal trunk road law. The VVWL is consulted on questions relating to logistics at expert hearings in the State Parliament of North Rhine-Westphalia.

Representation at the federal level

With its professional associations, the association is a member of the federal organizations Federal Association of Goods Transport, Logistics and Disposal (BGL), the German Freight Forwarding and Logistics Association (DSLV) and the Federal Association of Furniture Forwarding and Logistics (AMÖ), in whose committees the VVWL works intensively with its members. The German association landscape in logistics largely follows the principle of subsidiarity of the Federal Republic. The three large federal associations BGL, DSLV and AMÖ only have the legally independent state associations as members; no entrepreneurs are directly organized in the federal associations. Political issues that are dealt with in the state governments, the district governments or the municipalities are dealt with independently by the state associations.

Cooperation with other actors in logistics

With the aim of bundling the forces in the logistics industry in North Rhine-Westphalia and forming an active logistics community in North Rhine-Westphalia, the LOG-IT Club eV, the sponsoring association, has joined forces with the North Rhine-Westphalia Transport Industry and Logistics Association to form the North Rhine-Westphalia Logistics Cluster. The project is funded by the Ministry of Economy, Energy, Industry, SMEs and Crafts of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia and the EU. The LogistikCluster NRW is part of the NRW cluster policy under the umbrella brand Excellence.NRW and is part of the lead market mobility and logistics. With its predecessor organization "Association of Road Haulage and logistics Nordrhein eV" is the VVWL founding member of the since 1998 existing order partnership "safety in heavy traffic", which was awarded the State Prize of Homeland Security NRW year of 2003.
