Association of regional media in Austria
The Association of Regional Media Austria (VRM), founded in 1992, is the lobby group and umbrella organization for Austrian regional and free newspapers.
The association
The VRM includes around 250 newspapers from all over Austria with a total circulation of around 8 million. The majority of them are regional weekly newspapers, such as the Bezirksblätter, die Woche, the Tips or the Bezirksrundschau. But the daily newspaper heute, as well as a number of magazines (e.g. the Weekend Magazin), are members of the VRM. The chairman is Josef Gruber (president).
The association is based in Vienna.
The VRM facts & figures
The association represents around 250 newspapers with a one-time circulation of approx. 8.6 million. The annual circulation of all member newspapers corresponds to around 500 million copies.
The VRM was founded in Styria in 1992 and has been recognized by the state as a collective bargaining body since 2000 . He is a member of the sponsoring associations of the Advertising Council and the Press Council and thus contributes to the idea of self-regulation in both editorial and advertising.
Editorial orientation
The editorial offices of the media are independent. The mostly weekly published content in print and the daily updated reports in online come from the immediate environment of the people and are almost entirely researched and designed themselves. The media deliver local news from the readers' immediate surroundings and are regarded as local media suppliers. Many media that appear in individual districts supplement their reports with state-of-the-art topics and topics that are relevant across Austria.
Reach and data collection
All major members of the VRM have been participating in the media analysis for years and have consistently high coverage. The print usage behavior of Austrians aged 14 and over is determined every six months by means of the media analysis. It is the largest study to survey the media consumption of the Austrian resident population in private households from the age of 1 and is carried out by Fessel-GfK and IFES according to the current microcensus of Statistics Austria .
The regional newspapers are at the top of the print reach in every federal state and offer information about politics, events, associations, institutions, doctors, pharmacies, etc.
