Cotton wool
As a cotton wool bandage , degreased and fine-fiber cotton is called. Degreasing makes it absorbent. It is used for cleaning and upholstery in medicine and in the household.
It was first made by the Tübingen surgery professor Victor von Bruns in 1865 . The French surgeon Alphonse Guérin (1817–1895) was one of the first to use the cotton wool as a wound dressing . It was manufactured industrially from 1871 by the Swiss industrialist Heinrich Theophil Baeschlin in the factory for medical bandages (today IVF Hartmann ). Before that, Sharpie was used.
