The Medal of Merit ( Czech. Medaile za zásluhy ) is a state award of the Czech Republic .

It was established in three stages by Law 404/90 on October 2, 1990 by the Czech Parliament . They are awarded to individuals who have rendered services to the republic in the fields of business, science, technology, culture, art, sport, education, defense and national security. The medal of merit is presented to the recipient by the president or one of his authorized representatives in a festive act together with a certificate.

Appearance and wearing style

The bronze, silver and silver-gold-plated medal with a diameter of 33 mm shows stylized linden leaves on the obverse and the letters CZ . To the left of this is the inscription: ZA ZÁSLUHY (For Merit). The reverse , on the other hand, is the large national coat of arms of the Czech Republic and the award number stamped under it. The medal is worn on the 38 mm wide ribbon in original size only on festive occasions on the upper left side of the chest. The ribbon is golden yellow and shows a vertically woven violet central stripe in the middle of the gold level. There are two stripes for the silver level and three for the bronze level. The ratio of the colors is

  • at the gold level: 18 mm (gold): 2 mm (violet): 18 mm (gold)
  • for the silver level: 16 mm (gold): 2 mm (violet): 2 mm (gold): 2 mm (violet): 16 mm (gold)
  • at the bronze level: 14 mm (gold): 2 mm (violet): 2 mm (gold): 2 mm (violet): 2 mm (gold): 2 mm (violet): 14 mm (gold)

For civilian clothing, a 38 × 10 mm clasp is worn on the lapel, which has the same texture.
