Medal of Merit for Civil Defense (Luxembourg)

The Medal of Merit for Civil Protection was founded on December 4th 1987 by Grand Duke Jean of Luxembourg and is given as recognition and reward to people who have distinguished themselves in the voluntary or full-time service of civil protection . It is also awarded for many years of meritorious work in this field.

Classes

The award consists of three stages.

  • I. stage - gold with crown
  • II stage - silver
  • III. Level - bronze

After 10 years, volunteers can start with the III. Level, after 15 years with the second level and after 20 years with the first level. For full-time employees, these deadlines are shortened by five years, so that the III. Level after five years, level II after 10 and level I after 15 years.

Level I can also be awarded directly for exceptional services to civil protection.

Appearance

The round medal made of bronze is gold-plated or silver-plated in the individual stages and shows three intertwined rings in which the words ALTRUISME SOLIDARITE DEVOUEMENT (common good, solidarity, devotion) can be read. On the back you can see the coat of arms of Luxembourg with the inscription MERITE DE LA PROTECTION CIVILE (merit for civil protection).

Carrying method

The award is worn on a white ribbon with a light blue central and red border on the left side of the chest.
