Order of Merit (Norway)
The Norwegian Order of Merit ( Norwegian Den Kongelege Norske Fortenstordenen or Den Kongelige Norske Fortjenstorden ) was founded on June 14, 1985 by King Olaf V of Norway and is awarded to foreign citizens and Norwegian citizens living abroad as an award for special services to Norwegian interests . The ruling monarch is the order's grand master .
Order classes
The order consists of five classes:
Order decoration
The sign of the order is a gold-plated clover leaf cross with a crown between the cross angles. A red cross with rounded ends can be seen on the cross arms. As a medallion it shows the signet Olav V .: the letter O, inside a V, surmounted by a crown.
The award for knights is simply silver-plated .
Carrying method
The grand cross is carried on a sash from the left shoulder to the right hip and with a gold-plated eight-pointed breast star on which the medal is placed. Commanders decorate the award as a neck medal and the second class additionally with a silver-plated breast star. Knights wear the medal on the ribbon on the left side of the chest. The ribbon is dark blue.
