The Association Psychosocial Aspects of Human Genetics (VPAH) is an association of doctors, psychologists, social workers, social pedagogues, sociologists and representatives of other professional groups who deal with human genetic issues in their professional activities. The aim of the association is to promote public health care in the field of human genetics. The VPAH e. V. was founded in 1991 in Ulm.

Goal setting

The purpose of the association is to promote psychosocial aspects of human genetics in training, research and practice through:

  • the initiation and promotion of research projects with psychosocial issues,
  • the organization of national and international symposia,
  • the initiation and promotion of further education projects for genetic counselors,
  • participation in the development of professional rules, regulations, guidelines and guidelines,
  • the promotion of cooperation between medical and non-medical employees of genetic counseling centers,
  • the promotion of cooperation between genetic counseling centers and other institutions that provide psychosocial care,
  • Public relation.

history

The association was founded on April 12, 1991 under the name Association for the Promotion of Psychosocial Aspects of Human Genetics in Ulm and entered in the register of associations of the Freiburg District Court on October 8, 1991 under the number 2335. Since then, the association has been recognized as a non-profit organization with direct tax relief. At the 9th Ordinary General Meeting in 1999, the name was changed to the Association for Psychosocial Aspects of Human Genetics (VPAH eV) .

The first chairman of the association was Gerhard Wolff (Freiburg) from 1991 to 1996 and Hans Joachim Schindelhauer-Deutscher (Homburg / Saar) from 1996 to 2016. Hendrik Berth (Dresden) has been 1st Chairman since 2016.

The association cooperates closely with the German Society for Human Genetics (GfH), with numerous nationwide self-help associations and other scientific specialist societies, such as B. the German Society for Medical Psychology . Members' meetings are held annually as part of the annual meetings of the German Society for Human Genetics. Association news, such as the minutes of the general meetings , are published in the journal " medical genetics ".
