The Association for German Shepherds ( SV ) is one of the oldest dog breeding associations in Germany. Its headquarters are in Augsburg . He looks after the German Shepherd Dog in matters of breeding and training and is a member of the International Rescue Dog Organization , the World Union of Shepherd Dog Associations , the Association for the German Canine and, within this association, the Working Group of Breeding Associations and Working Dog Associations . Via the VDH, the association belongs to the Fédération Cynologique Internationale , the international umbrella organization for the dog industry.
On April 22nd, 1899, the Association for German Shepherds was founded on the fringes of a dog show in Karlsruhe, Baden. The breed founder Max von Stephanitz became the first club president. A few years later the headquarters of the Augsburg association became. The first breed standard for the German Shepherd Dog was set by the club's founder.
The main office of the association in Augsburg manages the business of the association, to which 19 regional groups and around 2,000 local groups are affiliated. It regulates the membership administration, keeps the stud book and the licensing office and organizes nationwide sport and breeding events with international participation every year.
Before the RSV2000, the SV is the largest association recognized by the VDH for the German Shepherd Dog based in Germany and, like all VDH members, is allowed to issue breed certificates (so-called "papers") according to the regulations of the FCI .
