V., based in Heidelberg, pursues the purpose of "promoting research into the Reformation movement [...] and ensuring the dissemination of scientific research results", which is done through the publication of publications and the organization of scientific conferences.

history

The Association for the History of the Reformation was founded on February 13, 1883 in Magdeburg . Its original objective was “popular education with the aim of strengthening national Protestant identity”. During the end of the German Empire, the goal of popular education gradually took a back seat in favor of a more scientific orientation. After the Second World War, there was an “opening to Western European-North American research questions” as well as a dismantling of the original denominational ties to Protestantism.
