The Association for Stuttering and Relatives ( VERSTA ) is a self-help association for people with fluency problems , especially stuttering, and at the same time sees itself as a nationwide advocacy group for stuttering people in Switzerland. It is the only organization in Switzerland that is recognized by the Federal Social Insurance Office as an umbrella organization for language disorders and whose activities are state-funded through a service contract in accordance with Art. 74 IVG with financial aid to promote disability benefits .

The VERSTA office is located in Lenk in the Simmental .

activity

VERSTA addresses the 80,000 or so people affected by stuttering in Switzerland. The association offers especially through its managing director Beat Meichtry, who together with the stuttering therapist and developer of the natural method Erwin Richter (1911-2001) wrote the book The extended natural method: A course for the treatment of stuttering , information, long-term support and accompaniment of those affected and Relatives and courses. Furthermore, self-help groups are set up throughout Switzerland and supported and looked after by the office.

The association regularly uses World Stuttering Day (October 22nd) as an opportunity to educate and inform about the situation of people with speech disorders and their relatives.

The association sells literature on the subject across Switzerland through its shop and cooperates with Demosthenes Verlag and the German Federal Association of Stuttering & Self-Help for this purpose .
