Lists on the subject

The club rifle 1857 , also known as the 1857 infantry rifle , was jointly developed by Württemberg , Baden and Hesse to equip their troops in the federal army . The muzzle-loading weapon used the Minié bullet (caliber 13.9 mm) and had a percussion lock . In total, a little over 70,000 rifles were manufactured, around 30,000 of which for Württemberg and 20,000 each for Baden and Hesse.

The 1857 club rifle was used in the Austro-Prussian War of 1866, but was quickly replaced by the emerging breech- loading rifles , especially the needle gun that had been tried and tested since 1839 .

After the defeat at Königgrätz , most of the rifles for the 1857/67 UM model with the Dreyse system were converted into a needle gun , so that only a few examples are still available today.

variants

From the Württ. Infantry rifle In 1857, the cavalry carbine 1860, the pioneer carbine 1860 and the carbine for train and medical U / M 1862 were developed (each with a 500 mm barrel and riding bar) and the hunter rifle 1860 (with a 750 mm barrel and set trigger) .

The Hessian version of the weapon can be distinguished by the rear sight , in this case the distance scale is at the top.

Today's use in shooting sports

The Italian company Davide Pedersoli brought out a copy of the infantry rifle 1857 in 1998, which since then has been increasingly used in several variants (changing the sight position) in the 100 m muzzle-loading order rifle and has been used alongside replicas of the Enfield 1853/1858/1861 type is.
