Viechtach town square

The ensemble ( E-2-76-144-1 ) includes the town square, which is the core of a market settlement from the 13th century in the two wings of an L-shaped floor plan at the intersection of the "Pfahlhochstraße" (Deggendorf – Paterzell – Cham) formed with the "Bayerweg" (salt route via St. Englmar to Prague). Viechtach, which goes back to the clearing activities of the Counts of Bogen in the 11th century, was raised to the status of market in the 12th century by the settlement of the ministerial administrative center and between 1242 and 1301. The parish, which also existed in the 12th century, was handed over by Count Albert IV von Bogen to his house monastery Windberg in 1233, which until 1616 exercised pastoral care by some canons and until 1590 at the latest the rare change from a Marian patronage to that of the Order's patron St. Augustine brought about. The stately dimensions of the late baroque parish church, which together with the extensive parsonage form the eastern, widely visible closure of the town square, are a visible expression of one of the best-off church foundations in the Bavarian Forest: the Viechtach church with 19 7/8 courtyard units was the fourth largest landlord of the regional court, followed by the Viechtach rectory with 18 5/8 yard units. - Today's almost closed development of the square with bourgeois gabled and eaves summer houses from the 18th to 20th centuries as well as a hipped roof at least has the medieval floor plan, after numerous fires have reduced the existence of that time more and more. At the corners the main roads are introduced, ascending northeast, north and northwest from the Black Rain Valley. The 17th century town hall is the architectural focal point in the inner corner.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
