Association synagogue Stumpergasse
The club synagogue Stumpergasse was a synagogue in Vienna district Mariahilf .
history
In 1894 the "Israelitische Tempel- und Schulverein" built the synagogue Stumpergasse ("Stumper-Schul") with almost 200 seats in the back yard of Stumpergasse 42 in Vienna's 6th district.
In 1938 the synagogue was devastated and no longer repaired. The adjacent house was demolished in 1973; In the house were among other things the health support women association for the 6th and 7th district , as well as the Chewra Kadischa - Bikur Chaulim and a Jewish social association. Between 1976 and 1978 the municipality of Vienna built a residential building on the site of the former synagogue , on which a memorial plaque was attached in 2010 to commemorate the synagogue.
In the compilation “Jewish places of worship in Vienna before 1938”, a prayer house in Mariahilf at Millergasse 43 is also mentioned under the name “Ahawath Achim” (brotherly love).
