Verena Klemm

Verena Klemm (born April 29, 1956 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German orientalist at the University of Leipzig . Her main research interests are Shiite Islam and modern Arabic literature and the literary debate.

Life

Klemm studied Islamic Studies, Comparative Religious Studies, Egyptology and Empirical Cultural Studies at the University of Tübingen . In 1988, she was at Heinz Halm with a thesis on the Ismaili propagandist al-Mu'ayyad fi'l-Din al-Shirazi doctorate . Her habilitation on the discourse of literary engagement and Sartre's reception in the Arab world took place in 1998 at the University of Hamburg. Since 2003 she has been Professor of Arabic Studies and Oriental Philology at the University of Leipzig. Since 2006 she has been leading several DFG projects in which the Islamic manuscripts of the Leipzig University Library are being recorded and researched. In 2016 she was elected to the Saxon Academy of Sciences .
