Verena Späthe (* 29. May 1958 in Jena ) is a German politician of the SPD and since 2006 Member of the Landtag of Saxony-Anhalt .

Life and work

After graduating from high school in 1976, she studied and graduated with a degree in engineering and economics.

From 1980 to 1982 Späthe was assistant professor at the TH Merseburg and obtained her doctorate in economics ( Dr. oec. ) In 1986 .

From 1992 to February 2007 she was the managing director of the Soziale Betreuungswerk Gemeinnützige Gesellschaft mbH.

Verena Späthe is married and has two children.

From 1990 until her election to the state parliament (2006) she was a member of the city council of Merseburg and there also chairwoman of the SPD city council group. From 1998 to 2007 she was a member of the Merseburg-Querfurt district council . After the local elections due to the district reform, she has been a member of the SPD district parliamentary group of the Saalekreis and its deputy parliamentary group leader since 2007 . In the state parliament she represented the constituency of Merseburg and was a member of the committee for social affairs. At the end of the sixth legislative period, she left the state parliament.

Since August 15, 2016, when she replaced the resigned MP Nadine Hampel on the SPD's state list, she has been a member of the Saxony-Anhalt state parliament again. In Parliament she is a member of the Committee on Labor, Social Affairs and Inclusion and the Committee on Petitions.
