Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic ( Slovak: Ústavný súd Slovenskej republiky ) is the highest court in Slovakia responsible for overseeing compliance with the Constitution of the Slovak Republic .

The seat of the court is in the Slovak city of Košice . Since a constitutional amendment in 2001, the Constitutional Court has had thirteen judges (previously: ten). The judges are appointed by the president for a term of twelve years from a list of candidates drawn up by the National Council (Art. 134 Paragraphs 1 and 2). The minimum age of the judges is 40 years and they must have been professionally active for at least 15 years in addition to having completed a law degree. The court decides either as a plenary session including all judges or as a senate with 3 judges (§ 2 No. 38/1993). The powers of the Constitutional Court are determined by the Constitution of Slovakia.
