Constitution of the Slovak Republic

The Constitution of the Slovak Republic ( Slovak Ústava Slovenskej republiky , No. 460/1992 Zb.) Is the currently valid constitution of Slovakia . It was approved by the Slovak National Council on September 1, 1992 by a majority of 114 members and signed on September 3, 1992 in the Knights' Hall of Bratislava Castle . It came into force on October 1, 1992, with some parts not until January 1, 1993 after the break-up of Czechoslovakia . Compliance is monitored by the Constitutional Court of the Slovak Republic with its seat in Košice .

Since the constitution came into force, it has been amended eighteen times by constitutional laws and once by a constitutional decision (40/2019 Z. z.). These are (chronologically): 244/1998 Z. z., 9/1999 Z. z., 90/2001 Z. z., 140/2004 Z. z., 323/2004 Z. z., 463/2005 Z . z., 92/2006 Z. z., 210/2006 Z. z., 100/2010 Z. z., 356/2011 Z. z., 232/2012 Z. z., 161/2014 Z. z ., 306/2014 Z. z., 427/2015 Z. z., 44/2017 Z. z., 71/2017 Z. z. a 137/2017 Z. z., 40/2019 Z. z. and 91/2019 Z. z.

September 1st is the national holiday of Slovakia today and is called Deň Ústavy Slovenskej republiky (German Constitution Day of the Slovak Republic).

The constitution is divided into preamble and nine main parts. Some main parts are further divided into departments. There are 156 articles in total, which can be further divided into paragraphs or letters.
