The exhibition Transport hub Switzerland and our way to the sea in Basel is a museum for shipping in connection with the modes of transport rail , road and air . It shows the development of shipping on the Rhine as a freight carrier between the North Sea and Basel on fifty ship models, illustrations and information. In addition, railroad , truck and airplane models complement the show. Since 2005, saloon and cabin shipping has also been presented.

A large model shows the Rhine and the ports of Basel-Kleinhüningen and Basel-St. Johann with the handling facilities as they looked in the middle of the 20th century. Further, portable models to illustrate the functioning of a lock , the deletion of the cargo material from a tank -Rheinschiff and the envelope of the liquid in rail and truck.

The museum was founded in 1954 by the Swiss shipping company under the name “Our Way to the Sea”. The name was changed in 1993 when the association “Verkehrsdrehscheibe Schweiz”, which has owned the museum since 2001, took over the sponsorship. The cantons of Basel-Stadt and Basel-Landschaft , companies and private individuals are also involved in the museum . The exhibition is located in the Rheinhafen in the Kleinhüningen district near the three-country corner and the silo tower .
