The transport company Mecklenburg-Vorpommern (VMV) is the transport authorities for the rail transport (regional rail) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern . The Schwerin- based company was founded in 1995 and is state-owned.

tasks

With the regionalization of the SPNV in 1996, the VMV took over the tasks of planning, organizing and financing rail transport services, while the other local public transport (ÖPNV) became the responsibility of the local authorities . The range of tasks extends from the tendering of local rail transport services to the conclusion of transport contracts and agreements on vehicle financing as well as participation in the timetable design to controlling and the financial processing of contracts.

An important goal is to step-by-step allocation of local rail transport services in subnetworks to intensify competition between the railway companies (EVU) and thereby reduce costs. This in turn offers the possibility of ordering additional transport services.
