The cleaning of means of transport is an essential part of the services of the building cleaning trade. Means of transport cleaning includes the cleaning of vehicles, especially public transport . In some cases - especially in the case of tenders - the cleaning of train stations and bus stops is also included, even if this is building cleaning in the narrower sense.

Means of transport cleaning includes cleaning the outer shell (external cleaning) and the passenger compartment of buses, trains, ships and aircraft. The surfaces are cleaned of physical dirt and rubbish and checked for damage at the same time. The cleaning of the means of transport can therefore also be seen as part of the maintenance of public transport. This is an important aspect, because public transport is usually financed with taxpayers' money, so professional cleaning helps ensure that the vehicles are not only in good and attractive condition, but are regularly inspected and minor damage is quickly repaired before expensive repairs attack. In this way, professionally carried out vehicle cleaning can also reduce ongoing maintenance and repair costs and increase the service life of the vehicles.
In times of the corona crisis, climate change and the turnaround in traffic , the cleaning of means of transport bears a high level of responsibility for clean and hygienic means of transport, because only when buses, suburban trains, trams, underground trains and trains are clean and therefore attractive for passengers can they be create a positive image for local and long-distance public transport. This is an important factor for the success of public transport and thus for the relief of nature and the environment.
Publications and professional reception
The private Bahn-Media Institut in Suhlendorf describes itself as a practice-oriented research and training institution for management, quality and transport cleaning in order to increase the attractiveness of the railroad as a carrier. The “Rail Vehicle Cleaning Working Group” is based at the Bahn-Media Institut . Since 2013, the institute has also published the magazine for vehicle cleaning SAUBER four times a year .
2019 was held under the patronage of Lower Saxony's Minister of Transport Bernd Althusmann at the Hanover trade fair of congress Clean transport instead.
